Individual art project prepared for the recurrent cultural event Night of Culture in Lublin – June 2017.
27 paintings, 27 locations, each of them hidden. For the latest edition, I have invited all the participants of Night of Culture event to search for lost paintings together. It won’t be easy, since the paintings can be anywhere. They are small, 20×20 cm and supposedly, located mostly near the Old Town. Places I choose, often dictate the composition and colour of the painting. This special place becomes inspiration for it. Next, the paintings are placed somewhere in Lublin. If you find it, you can take it with you. Or leave it for others looking for it. But be sure to take a picture and post it on Facebook or Instagram with a #27obrazow hashtag.
What does the #27paintings project mean for Lublin?
Art for the city, for Lublin, the goal of 27 hidden paintings is to paint 27 small canvases. Just as many as there are districts in Lublin. The project becomes a location-based game for all the citizens of Lublin and the city itself. The participants look around themselves, thus watching the city more closely, noticing new things around them and having the opportunity to see the surrounding space from a new perspective.
Through this project, I want to give Lublin and its citizens a part of my memories, explorations and findings, especially I was attached to the city for many years. That’s why anyone who finds a painting will also find attached information about the location and neighbourhood, as well as the artist and the project, this little piece is part of. Undiscovered paintings will stay in the city, becoming a permanent part of it.
